Plunger Lift Anomaly: Surface Restriction

Surface Restriction

Ambyint’s Platform is designed to flag anomalies in well behavior and operating conditions enabling users to identify deviations which could result in incorrect optimization responses, production lost/deferred, or a more costly operational issue.  The anomaly detection components of Ambyint’s InfinityPL leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to recognize patterns in the data much like any production engineer would while performing recurring well surveillance.

Surface Restriction - The Surface Restriction anomaly is designed to identify situations where flow is being restricted at or near the surface.  This is often due to equipment issues like a faulty choke, or scaling in surface plumbing. Under normal conditions, there’s a predictable relationship between tubing pressure (TP) and line pressure (LP). Ambyint continuously learns what “normal” looks like for each well and monitors for any significant deviations from that pattern. When TP remains unexpectedly high, indicating that flow may be obstructed, Ambyint’s platform flags this as a potential surface restriction.

There are also built in safeguards to avoid false alarms from minor fluctuations or sensor noise, so that anomaly detention can focus only on events that truly stand out from historical behavior. This anomaly helps operators catch early signs of surface-level issues, reducing downtime, prioritize field maintenance, and potentially avoiding lost or deferred production.
